In the spring of 2005, the Chippewa Falls Fire and Emergency Services Department began to recognize the need to become more educationally pro-active in serving the citizens of our city. Following a series of discussions involving fire and EMS personnel , it was determined that a greater spirit of understanding and cooperation could exist between the Fire Department and the citizens if we could make people aware of the different entities that comprise our Fire Department, and extend an invitation to them to become involved with the Fire Department on a more personal level. The outcome of this was the formation of the Citizens Fire Academy.

In the spring of 2006, the Chippewa Falls Fire and Emergency Services Department  initiated the first Citizens Fire Academy. The class members will be a cross-section of the Chippewa Falls community, i.e., homemakers, professional business persons, clergy, and local politicians who are anxious to learn about the operation of their Fire Department.

Participants will become more familiar with the day to day operation of the Chippewa Falls Fire Department. The training program consists of 6 weeks of both classroom and practical instruction.  Beginning in April participants will meet in 3-hour sessions once a week. Instruction will be comprehensive, and each week will highlight a different area of the Fire Department, taught by personnel with expertise in each aspect of operations. Topics will include: Orientation, Fire Safety Education, Prevention and Code Enforcement, Fire Investigation, SCBA, Hazardous Materials, EMS, Extrication, Special Rescue and Engine and Snorkel Operations.
